My Morning at Safehouse Coffee Roasters

I don't normally get to do things out and about where I live, mostly because I'm working (or lazy). However, as a substitute teacher, you don't always never have a concrete schedule. So, today I am working an afternoon half-day, so I am enjoying this nice 50-ish degree morning in one of the coolest and coziest coffee shops I've ever been to: Safehouse Coffee Roasters in Griffin, GA. Armed with my iPhone, I began snapping pics all over the place. Then the cozy atmosphere got me...as it should.

Toby and I have been here before and I totally fell in love with the place. It's the perfect spot to read or do some work or just have a conversation. The people who work here are very friendly and helpful, and they also just look like cool people. It's a restored building, full of the quirks that only come with age, but they have redone it marvelously and left little accents that remind you of the history that is within the walls. Speaking of history, as I write this I can hear Billie Holiday playing overhead. Earlier it was Django Reinhardt. These people are classy and they keep winning me over.

It's very simplistic and clean. Minimalist. Amazing. And every person that comes through the doors looks like someone interesting that you would love to talk to. I promise, I'm not just romanticizing it. It's just that cool of a place.

Not only does it feel fantastic, this place supports local farmers and is a non-profit organization that supports community more than commerce. Guys, if you live in this area, you should really check this place out because your money goes to a local business that supports goodness of lots of sorts.

I haven't even gotten to the best part yet: the coffee itself. Well, it tastes great. Very rich and of course is brewed right here, fresh, every Tuesday. Another good thing, is that if you don't feel like popping into the shop, you can order their coffee online as well. Believe it or not, I was not paid to do this post. I just really like this place and would love to see people give it a go! Thank you Safehouse for a fantastic morning, and for letting me sit at a table for 3+ hours until I go to work. I'll be seeing you again, soon!

It's a....

...Boy!

We announced the good news on Instagram yesterday and from every other rooftop that is available to us! We are so thrilled and could not be happier! We can't wait to meet our little Yosef "Yosi" David Manolis. The doctor said we have a very active little boy that's always wiggling (which I knew, because I feel it all the time). Sounds like he'll be just as crazy as us when he gets here. And now I know how I'll work off those preggy pounds. *face palm*

We celebrated by eating outside in this random 70 degree weather! Toby made homemade fried chicken and we laid out a spread of other goodies. It was a glorious day!

And it was really delicious, just FYI.

And just another quick belly update. I am at 21 weeks now and obviously pregnant looking, not just food stuffed looking, thank God.

I hate that we have to wait so long to meet this sweet little guy, but I'm so thankful to know he's doing well and that he's a he! It's a really exciting journey and we're blessed to be on it.

Take care,

Lately on Instagram

Hello everyone!

I just got back in town from a retreat in snowy Pennsylvania. Needless to say, I almost didn't make it home, but I did, thank God! I took a bunch a pictures of more snow (like you need any more, I'm sure) but because I'm lazy, I have not edited them or transferred them to the computer. On Instagram, however I'm a busy bee, well sort of. Instagram has captured my substitute teacher training days, meals during the snowpocalypse, little outings and more.

If we're not friends on Instagram we should be because it's pretty much my favorite social media outlet ever. I've been a little MIA the last few days because my phone broke, womp.
Fear not though, I'm replacing it tomorrow so look out Instagram, Brooke will be back!

1. My snowy view from my room in PA. 2. My yummy Mediterranean meal at the ATL airport.
3. Waffle House delicacies. 4. Late night dessert date with a good friend.
1. Getting ready to start temping (school of rock, anyone?). 2. Snow day.
3. Lunch at firehouse subs to escape the ice! 4. First day as a sub, and my 19
week (at the time) baby bump!

So that's a little update over here. Stay safe and warm in this weather!

Snow days in the South

I know that most of my friends up north have been absolutely pummeled with snow and it has been super annoying, but we down South had been waiting for our turn for a winter wonderland.

Well friends, it came and it was glorious. It began snowing on Tuesday night and it kept on all night (which for us in Georgia is positively unheard of). We were giddy like little kids!

This wasn't supposed to be blurry, but I kind of love it.
We pulled out the (super uncomfortable) couch-bed and slept in the living room so we could look at the snow better. We were off Wednesday and Thursday and went in late on Friday because we aren't used to wintry weather down here and the entire state was declared in a state of emergency. Bless our hearts. There was even a woman who had to give birth in her car because the highway was so backed up she couldn't make it to the hospital. It was a lot like The Walking Dead, but with snow instead of zombies. Makes sense that it's filmed here because we obviously go into intense survival mode when the crap hits the fan.

As for these snow birds, we remained safe in our little apartment until it was time to go out for a snow adventure. The snow was just beautiful. I can't believe how much I loved it. We were both snapping pictures and jumping in snow piles and...eating the snow. Yes, I know. But, guys seriously we never get snow. The forecast says we may get more snow on Friday which is more exciting than I can express!

We walked all around our apartment community, and oddly enough we were the only ones out even though no one had to go to work. It was so strange to see our little world covered in snow. It kind of felt like Narnia. Actually it REALLY felt like Narnia. In fact every lamppost we passed I pretended I was Lucy and then immediately wanted tea and cake. This is what snow does to me, folks.

Can't you just imagine Mr. Tumnus with his wee umbrella standing there?!

After our snow adventure was over we made cookies and hot chocolate. The perfect end to a perfect day. It was so much fun getting to spend the day with Toby (and our bird-in-the-belly) laughing and playing and resting. It was a very good day.

How have you all been spending your snow days?
