the lateful grateful and weekend recap.

Another crazy week passed and another relaxing weekend as well. This weekend I got to go to a friend's baby shower which was so fun! All us girls got together and played games, gave gifts, and stuffed our faces with cupcakes and cookies. I probably gained 15 pounds. Whatever.

This leads me to this week's gratefulness which is:
the blessing of new life.
The mama! She looks BEAUTIFUL and so happy :)

Also, after the shower the hubs was with a friend, so I took a trip to Goodwill all by myself! It was so fun! I didn't think to take pictures of the things I bought but I had more fun just looking around anyway.
Found this! So funny and slightly true.
I LOVED this movie as a kid!
The outfit for the day. I kinda like it!
How was your weekend?

Survey Saturday, dears.

Boy, oh boy, am I happy to see this weekend. It has been a trying week fraught with many novels, foreign languages, work and very little play. However, all the craziness makes me so much more thankful for the weekend and especially for the Shabbat (Sabbath). G-D knows how we are designed (obviously, haha) and He knows that sometimes we just need to STOP, DROP, and ROLL around in His presence!

(Why yes, I did take a fire safety course today and learned a little song about 'stop, drop, and roll.')

     Now on to the survey...

 1. The most meaningful item I own is my bible. Seriously. There may come a day when we can't have His word physically, so until that day I want as much of it as I can get. It's the best road map you could ever have.
2. My favorite drink is Earl Grey tea.Last Autumn I switched from coffee to tea and I am now obsessed with it! It's so yummy and way easier on the ole belly for me.

3. The best kind of job would be one where I could write about the things I love and be able to share all the amazing things the L-RD has done for me! Oh, and travel...with my love, of course!

4. I'm looking forward to our next trip to the beach. I don't know when it will be, but I am so so ready for the wind, waves, and wonderful RELAXATION!

5. The best thing about this week was when Toby came to my rescue. Ok, no I was not dying or in danger, but I was very exhausted and stressed with everything going on and I was just emotionally shutting down. He got me up and put me to bed, took care of dishes and other things and just took care of me. I so needed it and it made me love him even more than I did before. What a man. G-D's faithful...so faithful :)

6. If I wrote a book about my life I would make it set in another place and another time. The events, for the most part, would remain the same but I couldn't just write about my life. It's too personal, but also, I see my life through strange, other worldy eyes sometimes...those sort of things aren't captured among cars and planes. My imagination is rather more like Middle Earth than Middle America :)

7. One thing I will do this weekend (besides homework you mean) will be to babysit for a friend and to just CHILL OUT and do nothing while in pajamas. Yes. Yes I will.

Well, that's all she wrote, but one more thing...

My husband started a blog! WOO HOO! So excited to share the blogosphere with him!
I'm so proud of him. Go get to know his heart! You'll love it for sure :)

Grateful 52 continues! (and a weekend recap)

Well, it's funny because as soon as I mentioned my favorite kind of day on Friday
We got tons of rain and storms all weekend! G-D must have known :)
Hope you all had a fabulous weekend, we sure did.
G-D spoke to us in some mighty good ways
and we had such a fun time as just us birds.

And so you know, we ran out of turkey bacon so we fried turkey deli slices haha.
It tasted more like jerky, but we don't hate on the turkey for that.
The verse that G-D really put on us this week was Psalm 46. We all feel defeated at times
and we all struggle with the fact that everything in this life can be so temporal.
But sometimes, many times, we need to just stop striving and know that our mighty and loving G-D will take care of us. Even if the earth gives way...He never will :)

And now onto the third week of gratefulness!

I love having tea on Sunday mornings with Toby.
We sit down and talk about he L-RD or just our silly things we always discuss
...important things too of course :)

He is my best friend and the best thing G-D has given me. Love you Toby!

What are YOU grateful for?

Survey Saturday

Well, it's that time again!  I, for one, am very thankful for the weekend.
Tonight we had Shabbat dinner and are preparing to just
RELAX.

Toby has already started relaxing because he is currently passed out on the couch next to me!
Poor sleepy thing. I'm not far behind!

Anyways, survey time!

  1. The best kind of day is when the weather is slightly cold and the sky is overcast. I can sit inside and read a book, drink tea, and wear comfy, sweatery clothes! Ahhhh yes!
  2. My favorite thing about today was when we sat down to eat the dinner I made and Toby looked at it and went "oh wow!" I love being a wife :)
  3. I never thought that I would be a person that gets excited about things like crock-pots, cookware, and other kitchen appliances. I have a specific journal entry of mine in mind where I expressed my disdain for the fact that marriage and adulthood produced a boring and and too-docile form of enjoyment. Naturally, I grew up and that changed. I love marriage and adulthood...and kitchen appliances!
  4. When the clock strikes midnight I am usually still awake doing homework, watching a movie, blogging, instagramming or all of the above.
  5. When I wake up in the morning I hit the snooze way to many times and generally get out of bed late. L-RD help me!
  6. I pick out my outfit for the day about 10 minutes before I have to leave, haha! I'm not much of a planner (although I wish I was) and even when I try to plan an outfit, I'll ending changing because I like something else or don't like what I picked. Ah, what a fickle, fickle creature I can be.
  7. Before I go to bed I'll do all the nightly cleanliness things (brushing teeth, shower, etc.) then get in bed with my birdie, watch some TV (usually the First 48 or Forensic files), then we pray over each other and then SNOOZEVILLE. Blessed sleep. Sweet blessed sleep.

Have a happy weekend and stay tuned for The Grateful 52 week 3!

Surprise Date Night!

So as you know, school is in full swing and, surprise surprise, Toby is actually in school too!
He got accepted into the English as a Second Language certification program (that's my bebe!) so we are both coming home and cranking out the homework.

Needless to say we are tired and stressed.

I've been really praying for G-D to just calm us down and give us some down time.

I come home, and Toby calls me from the road and says "you wanna go on a date?" My heart melted!
So, we had a gift card to this place called Mirko Pasta, which is really yummy, and we went! It was SUCH a nice break for both of us. We were laughing and joking like nothing else! These lovebirds know how to make a date fun :)

A display of the types of pasta they have.
Their dinner cards have little Italian sayings! Bellisimo!
P.S. I wore my new shoes :)
At the end of the night, we settled down with some hot tea, Ginger tea for me,
Kava Tea for him.

G-D is so sweet. He totally gave us the break we needed. We had a good time.

Have you ever had little unexpected dates?

The Grateful 52

This weekend had lots of fun, emotional, and crazy moments
(as weekends tend to have)
In all the craziness, we were able to find lots of things to be grateful for...we just had to stop and notice it.
I was just introduced to "The Grateful 52" by another fabulous blogger from another lovely nest (who you should go check out, by the way), and I think it is a marvelous idea. It is 52 weeks (do the math guys, haha) of find something to be grateful for. We all need to stop and be thankful for all  that G-D has blessed us with...because all good gifts come from Him! Especially in this life that can be so tough, it's nice to remember what makes it not so terrible after all.
Now, I am entering a week late mind you, but you won't tell, eh?   :)

So welcome to week 2 of the Grateful 52! I will post here and on instagram!

This week's gratefulness is rather simple.
It is a gratefulness for large, fluffy sweatshirts belonging to my husband that he lets me wear.
It's just so comfy!

And now for the weekend update in snapshots :)

Went downtown for a funeral...sad, but a beautiful service.
Went to eat Chinese food (I was excited)
Toby made us "bebe breakfast"...and yes he is wearing super man pants.

Made a midnight run to the store and it was bloody freezing!

And that's all she wrote folks! Enjoy the holiday today (for you Americans)
and the rest of you lovelies, have a wonderful day.

Please feel free to join in the gratefulness! Leave a link in my comment forum so I can check it out!

Gratefully yours,

~B~

Swept under

Have you ever had one of those days where you just feel swept under all your stresses and worries?
It is generally known as an unpleasant feeling.
I have felt like this, especially with going back to school and trying to keep my head above water with work and ministry and other such things. It can be a lot! You feel like you will break if you bend any more

But that's when G-D comes in.

Instead of being swept under the craziness of life, G-D wants us to be swept under His love.
I know it may be hard to imagine sometimes, but G-D is not this intimidating thing that looms over us. He is a loving, caring, passionate Daddy. It has taken me a while to become comfortable with that, because I never grew up with a dad, so I don't quite understand that dynamic. But, G-D has been so patient and loving with me and teaches me all the time that He loves me and loves to take care of me. I just have to let Him do it.

I know I'm not the only one out there that feels overwhelmed at times. So for those moments when you feel like you just can't do it anymore, remember that G-D sees and knows where you are and will come to the rescue, just like a father.
"You number my wanderings;
Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book?
When I cry out to You, then my enemies will turn back;
This I know, because God is for me....
In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?"
Psalm 56:8-11
He is for you! Your enemies, whether it is physical, emotional or mental, HAVE to turn back when G-D does them to STOP. Call on the L-RD, on your heavenly Daddy. Let Him know what is going on...He WILL deliver you and He will stay by your side during it all. There is always grace in the wilderness. Always a stream in the desert. Always a light in the darkness. He never leaves us without hope! There's always an opportunity for us to be swept under His love. Think of the book of Exodus. The Israelites probably thought, "man, this is it for us! G-D has brought us into a trap by leading us into the Red Sea!" But, we have the luxury of knowing that that was not the end of the story! He parted it for them and they walked on DRY GROUND. The people of Israel looked at the physical circumstance and saw no hope. But, G-D proved not only that He is mighty and glorious, but that He can and will deliver us from each and every situation that threatens us, no matter how dire it may seem.It happened folks. I believe G-D still works those miracles today.
"Moses answered the people, 'Do not be afraid.
Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today.
The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.' " Exodus 14:13
Whatever Read Sea you may have come to, whatever dark wave may be threatening to sweep you under. Know that if you call on G-D, He WILL come through.

He never fails. He never delays. He never abandons.

Survey Saturday

 Shabbat Shalom, everybody!

I am currently making some challah, doing some laundry, and enjoying no school or work for today.
Friday = Freeday!

I'm getting these surveys in early so the weekend can be...the weekend!
I have MLK day off Monday from school (but not work) which is cool because I get to hang out with the hubs on Monday...and study more, haha. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend

...from the little things we do. Thanks, Lauren :)

1.   The last thing I ate was     A nutrigrain bar...the strawberry kind.

2.   The last song I listened to was     "Mechanical Lullaby" from the Coraline soundtrack. Weird, I know   .

3.  Using the letters in my name I can spell    {Brooke} book, brook, rook, broke, robe, bore, rob  .

4.  If I had to dress in one color for the rest of my life I would pick     brown, because I love earthy colors and a lot of my clothes have brown hues in them   .

5.  If you were to look in my bag right now you'd find    chapstick, my phone, my ipod, wallet, keys, cough drops, bobby pins, gum, receipts, earrings...too much, haha .

6.  When I finish filling in the blanks I'm going to    go  braid and bake the challah! .

7.  My all time favorite song to dance to is   "The Thriller" by Michael Jackson. It's the best!!

Happy Weekend!

Back to School!

My daily walk from class to the car
Man oh man, has this been a busy week! When last we spoke, I was preparing to babysit the lovelies with Toby (which I will post at a later date) and mentally preparing to start classes again.

Well, they have started in all of their glory!

I'm not gonna lie to you, it's going to be pretty challenging. I have 3 literature courses (each with at least 4 novels) and 1 very extensive Spanish class with a professor who is very difficult. Looks like I might be going back to coffee until May! Even though I'm shaking in my boots a bit, I am loving learning and at the end of it all, it will feel great to be done.

There has not been a lot of free time, but there have been some fun moments in the midst of the craziness, and I hold on to those for dear life!

One of my first assignments. Hooray!!!
Found some good finds at Goodwill!
Kicked back with Jarritos after work and first day of school.
Made some challah last friday too...probably will make some tomorrow too!
That's all folks! Any of you back to school?

Survey Saturday

Borrowed from the little things we do...gotta love that sweet free time!

1.   One of my favorite things to do when I have free time is     sleep in, have "bebe breakfast" (which consists of breakfast yummies cooked by my birdie), have some hot tea and watch a movie with Toby. It's grand!

2.   When I have free time I tend to    be LAZY. I mean really lethargic. Sometimes it feels good, and other times I am overcome with my unproductivity. However, I usually end up on instgram, pinterest, or the blog, and sometimes I read a book and always have a laugh with the husband.

3.  If I had an entire day completely to myself I would    Probably pee in my pants with excitement! I would get up EARLY (yes, by choice) have some time with G-D, drink my Earl Grey tea, and do all sorts of odd things like watch my favorite movies that are too girly for Toby, take a bubble bath, go shopping (if I had money, haha) and just do things around the house. But, I'd probably start to miss Toby around 7 or 8 PM...evenings are for us :)     .

4.  I would prefer to spend my free time (alone or with others...)    I love having both. I love hanging out with friends and family, and my husband is my favorite person in the world to be with, but we all need some time alone because that is healthy. I'm kind of a homebody though. I like our nest. So I'd probably prefer to just be there with Tobes and maybe add a guest or two..maybe...hehe .

5.  Most of my free time happens    on the weekend. Anywhere from Saturday night to Sunday night. That's the free time slot.

6.  The best thing about free time is    THERE IS NO SCHEDULE! I'm not one for scheduling mostly...I should be and I'm getting better  at it, but I like to kind of go with things. Ride the wave, baby .

7.  The next time I have free time I should probably    work on some youth planning activities and get ready for school   but instead, I'll probably     get on instagram, pinterest, and other peoples blogs and drown in an endless sea of information provided by various forms of social media. Gosh, I miss the 60's .

P.S. speaking of instagram, I am the idiot that dropped her iPod touch in the TOILET and now have it burried in a tupperware full of rice, hoping and praying that it will work after its immersion. *puts on dunce cap*
Maybe I spend too much time on it...crap. Lesson on obsession much?

Hope y'all have some free time this weekend. As for me and hubs, we are babysitting for our friend's birthday. Hence the EARLY survey saturday! I'm sure we'll have some crazy pics and stories!

G-D vs the World: Trust

Tell me if you recognize this scenario:
You start out positive, life is good, then tragedy strikes. A breakup,a death, a betrayal. You go into hiding and vow you'll never *insert applicable verb* again. Then, whenever it IS time to *insert applicable verb* again, you have to wrestle and war with yourself to do it, causing damage to you and others.
Sound familiar?

Probably, because we have ALL been there. We've all been battered and bruised, and the natural response to that is to give up, or, become so "tough" that we'll never get hurt again. WRONG-O. We live in a world where people are selfish...it's true. Even us bloggers have many "look at me" moments, maybe more than others, haha. Why do I say that? Because when we're so bent on looking out for potential harm, we never catch the potential good.

So what does the world say about trust?
"Look out for yourself. Do what you have to do to make it. An eye for an eye. Everyone is out to get you"
Believe me, I was (and still battle with being) just such a person who would hold you at arms-length just to keep from getting too close, because I KNEW I'd get hurt. But G-D (one of the BEST phrases ever) kind of had to break me of that. I held my battle scars more dear than my blessings.

So what does G-D say about trust?
“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” Psalm 91:14-16
G-D never said life would be easy, in fact, He let us know we would have troubles, but if we trust in HIM and hold fast to Him, we know that He will be there to get us out of every hardship.
And hey, He's got a great track record! Just look at the stories of Moses, Joshua, Noah, David...its really too long of a list. And if you don't buy that, take a look at all the things in your life that could have totally wiped you out...but it didn't. And if you don't buy THAT, e-mail me. I got some stories about His goodness, baby! G-D is the one who delivers us. You can't deliver you...I know I can't!

Be encouraged this week. I know life is hard, but G-D is with you! Love to you all!

8th and final date of Hanukkah!

Our 8th and final date of Hanukkah consisted of a night in (we like nights in because it's very cheap!) playing Jenga and having a nice glass of wine! It was a very nice date, because we were both really stressed about returning to work/school from the holiday break because we knew life would be so hectic again. We were having trouble relaxing the whole of the day because of the dreaded next day. But, something just clicked and we realized that fretting and fussing wasn't helping anyone. We just snapped out of it (and by we I mostly mean me, because I really was pouting) and just had fun! Jenga was a total blast...Toby won...dang it. But hey, I'll get him back!

So now, we are back to work and I start school to finish my beloved English degree  next Monday (YIKES!) and I'm quite nervous because I haven't been in school in a while and I'm pretty busy as it is, but G-D willing, I'll get through it and do quite well! In the meantime, I'm loving these precious and relaxing prints that I found via the little things we do via Blanca Gomez on Etsy.

So sweet!

Survey Saturday (late) and date # 7

Yes, yes. Tis late again. But better late than never! Toby and I went out and celebrated with some lovely friends and had a total blast ringing in 2012...one of our best yet! Stay tuned after the survey for a belated 7th date of Hanukkah!

1. The best things about 2011 was celebrating my one year anniversary with Toby, all our crazy parties with the youth group, making newlywed memories, getting to know G-D a little more and so much more!

2. A lesson I learned in 2011 was that if you want what you have to be better, you have to maintain it. This goes for so many things like a clean house, friendships, marriage, but I learned it most with G-D. The only way He can teach me more and the only way I can be closer and more like Him is to SPEND TIME with Him. It's an every day thing!
3. 2011 was a big year for instagram and blogging! I started both in 2011 and really loved them both! This little blog has been fun for me, informative for family, and hopefully fun for others! And let's face it, instagram is addictive. Obsessed much?
4. In 2012 I plan to start school again  (gulp), cook more challenging foods (double gulp), and be more organized...eek!

5. A movie I'm excited about in 2012 is HANDS DOWN "The Hobbit"!!! Holy crap, I seriously cannot wait for this movie. I have been slowly reading the book and have LOVED it. It's gonna be amazing.

6. My motto for 2012 will be to stand firm, and see how G-D works! I'm not saying that 2012 will be bad, but like any year it will have challenges...this time, I pray that I have the faith to stand firm and trust G-D in EVERY situation and not doubt. I've seen Him get me out of EVERY trouble...He won't stop now :)

And now...
Our 7th date of Hanukkah was lunch date in bed watching Monster House!

LOVE this movie!
Have a good one y'all!
